Without giving proper time to our daf today, I'll just share the basics. Today's daf examines the natural world - the stars in the sky, thunder and lightening, waters and hail, clouds and rainbows, mountains and hills, the 28 year cycle of the earth, the seas and the moon... all of theses things require acknowledgement in the form of special blessings.
The rabbis focus on the mundane and the extraordinary. Today's daf primarily looks to those things that are beyond our understanding. The rabbis do speak of necromancy, and the importance of distancing those who make predictions based on the natural world from those who appreciate the natural world.
I began Daf Yomi (Koren translation) in August of 2012 with the help of an online group that is now defunct. This blog is intended to help me structure and focus my thoughts as I grapple with the text. I am happy to connect with others who are interested in the social and halachic implications of our oral tradition. Respectful input is welcome.
