The rabbis continue their conversation about whether a woman is entitled to her ketubah in circumstances that might concern issues around yibum. One of their major concerns is intentionality. Whether or not one intended to transgress seems to supersede even the magnitude of a sin. Again teruma is discussed in comparison to halachot around marriage. Today's daf focuses on the quality of teruma and the care that must be taken when separating teruma. It then focuses on how to determine whether a particular child is a mamzer. In this case, a woman remarries after learning that her husband has died abroad. He returns, very much alive. Is that child a mamzer, for s/he is the offspring of a woman who was married to one man and then cohabited with another?
Part of what the rabbis are discussing is whether or not rabbinical halacha can "uproot" Torah law.
I began Daf Yomi (Koren translation) in August of 2012 with the help of an online group that is now defunct. This blog is intended to help me structure and focus my thoughts as I grapple with the text. I am happy to connect with others who are interested in the social and halachic implications of our oral tradition. Respectful input is welcome.
