- the pasuk in Vayikra mentions a sin offering in particular
- how can this be applied to anything else?
- Rav Yehuda in the name of Shmuel tells the story of a student who serves his rabbi wine diluted with hot water; the rabbi asks for an another glass and that special request implies that something new should be added to the glass of wine
- The student would have served the same thing again if the rabbi made no request
- This relates to a sin offering as named in Vayikra - the Torah says - as a "special request" that the law applies to any sin offering
- Because it is a "special request", and would normally be read without further interpretation, we know that the law applies to all sacrifices
I began Daf Yomi (Koren translation) in August of 2012 with the help of an online group that is now defunct. This blog is intended to help me structure and focus my thoughts as I grapple with the text. I am happy to connect with others who are interested in the social and halachic implications of our oral tradition. Respectful input is welcome.
